Marine Lake, Misool Raja Ampat


Marine lake is a body of water surrounded by land and very varied in shape, size and distance from the sea. The term is anchialine lake. In Greek, the word is derived from anchi, "close" and alos from Hals, "sea salt". Anchialos means near the sea (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/). Holthuis (1973) in Tomascik and Mah (1994) defines anchialine is a pool without connection to the surface of the sea, consists of saltwater or brackish and fluctuates due to tidal .


From some literature, there are more than 200 lakes concentrated in four locations around the world. These locations have a semi-submerged karst characteristics to the sea.  They are Bahamas, Palau, Vietnam, and Indonesia (West Papua, East Kalimantan) (Dawson et al, 2009). From various reports are known in Palau there are 57 lakes, in Ha Long Bay Vietnam about 46 lakes, Derawan Islands East Kalimantan 14 pieces habitat anchialine, and in Raja Ampat West Papua was discovered about 55 lakes sea, 15 are in Wayag and Gam, and 40 others in Misool (Colin, 2009; Cerano et al, 2006; Santodomingo 2009; Becking, 2009; Becking 2014. Reports from Suric (2002) adds four lakes found in Croatia sea.
